From Coach Mark Marshall
Parents – We are in a time of year when the boys are busy with school and many of them soccer practice with their teams. What is easy about this scenario is for the boys to put off homework and studies until the morning, delegate their time to everything outside of school soccer and rely on the coaches who want them to be successful in school and club to understand that an athlete may miss workouts some or all of the days in a given week.
Here is the reality: We are all part of a program that is successful with all participants participating at all times. Often, an athlete has a game on a given day and Coach will allow the athlete to not work out that day with weights, and Coach will not force them to do anything that will inhibit their play for that day. Being present on these days is still mandatory. Tutorials during soccer time is a problem for our program during offseason workouts. This is the time for our team to gel and work to improve our physical strength, mental preparedness, and show Coach which participants can be counted on to be here.
Fortunately, we have many athletes and will field a team that is stronger and more prepared to get ready this Fall for a new season. What will ultimately happen when Coach selects the teams this Fall is those who are dedicated to the program will earn a spot. We keep a mental and paper record of each and every day we meet for workouts. Our boys need to schedule tutorial times for after school. This will be a factor going forward.
I appreciate all of our 9th and 10th grade athletes who have been dedicated to the program this year as we have had, particularly during the season, the best record of attendance in several years. What is concerning is that, since the conclusion of the season, our attendance has fallen off; this is a problem. Now we have many boys who are here every day, on time every day, and this is certainly recognized and appreciated. We are looking for the group that will take this program to the next level and accomplish the goals we have and will have for the coming year. We believe this may be that group, but time will tell.
I ask that , as parents, you assist us in assuring the boys are with us each day. Situations arise and there are times when missing is unavoidable and we understand this. I also want to thank everyone for supporting our program.
